Peter Kibet Kiptim, MSc Clinical Chemistry, is the Head of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Kenyatta National Hospital, where he has dedicated 15 years to advancing diagnostic excellence and patient care. In this role, he oversees operational leadership, quality assurance, and the implementation of innovative testing protocols to support timely and accurate results across the hospital. He the current chairperson of the Clinical Chemists Association of Kenya (CCAK), guiding professional standards, continuing education, and collaborative initiatives across the country. He also serves as Secretary to the AFCC POCT Committee and acts as the POCT Coordinator at Kenyatta National Hospital, a recently created post where he leads strategic efforts to support and oversee point-of-care testing programs, ensuring reliability, compliance, and clinical impact at the point of care. In addition to his responsibilities at KNH, Peter is a corresponding member of the IFCC CPR Committee, contributing his expertise to regional and international efforts in clinical chemistry practice and the advancement of laboratory medicine. His work focuses on integrating robust quality systems, fostering professional development, and promoting best practices in POCT to enhance patient outcomes across healthcare settings. Outside of his professional roles, Peter is committed to mentorship and knowledge sharing within the Kenyan clinical chemistry community.

Dr Nathan G. Kiboi is a Lecturer and Biomedical Researcher with a PhD Medical Laboratory Sciences (Clinical Chemistry option). His research focus is on metabolomics, proteomics and enzyme expression bioassays. Dr. Nathan Kiboi has contributed to scholarly publications in peer refereed journals and has presented in local and international conference proceedings. He is currently domiciled in the department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kakamega, Kenya).

Deborah Mogi is a distinguished Medical Laboratory Scientist currently serving as the Chief Laboratory Technologist within the University of Nairobi’s Department of Human Pathology (Clinical Chemistry). Having risen through the ranks—from trainee to Chief—Deborah brings a wealth of hands-on expertise and institutional knowledge to her role. She is a dedicated advocate for excellence in laboratory services, bridging the gap between diagnostics and clinical care. By mentoring students and collaborating with physicians, she ensures that laboratory precision remains the backbone of timely diagnosis, patient recovery, and groundbreaking research.

As the Vice Secretary of the CCAK Board, Izza Abdulhafedh is committed to ensuring that the organization’s governance is as precise and reliable as the scientific processes she oversees in her professional career. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology and a Master’s in Public Health, she brings a strong bench-to-community perspective to the board’s strategic initiatives, particularly regarding the intersection of health and climate adaptation.

Her technical expertise is rooted in a special interest in autoimmune diseases and the harmonization of diagnostic tests across multiple platforms. Beyond the bench, Izza Abdulhafedh is a strong advocate for the advancement of the profession. She is passionate about the integration of modern industry advancements such as lab automation and emerging technologies into current medical laboratory curricula to ensure that training remains relevant and forward-thinking. Furthermore, she is dedicated to the continuous improvement of laboratory professionals’ competence through the development and promotion of focused Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs.

She supplements her scientific background with formal training in Project Management, Leadership, and Global Health, which allows her to contribute effectively to CCAK’s project lifecycle and administrative duties. Izza Abdulhafedh’s extensive training in emergency preparedness, including HICS (Hospital Incident Command System), counterterrorism protocols, and certification as a Fire Marshal, reinforces her dedication to safety and structured crisis response. She is proud to leverage this diverse skill set to support CCAK’s mission, ensuring that as we adapt to environmental challenges, we do so with a strong emphasis on health security, professional excellence, and community well-being.
